What Do Dinner, Viagra and the Grocery Store Have in Common?

I decided to call a friend about 5:30 on Friday night to see if he wanted to grab a quick bite to eat.  I knew he would either be in for the evening or having a hot date…so I took my chances it would be the first one.

It was my lucky night.

Just Singing in the…Snow!

I got the call about 8:15 p.m.

“Look out the window.  It’s snowing like cats and dogs here.” The voice on the other end of the phone said.

I was excited.  I mean, after all, there is little snow in our part of the world and when we do have it we think we’ve died and gone to heaven.I ran to the door with the cellphone in my hand as I continued to talk and there was no snow.  It was just bitter cold and windy.

“ No snow here.”  I said.  “Darn, and I was in hopes I would see some and make a snowball or two.”

“Come on over. We’ll have a bottle of wine and sit on the porch watching the snowfall.” Said the sincere voice.

I had my pajamas on already and it was 30 minutes away to my friend’s house.

Coming of Age Day

It’s ironic that Coming of Age Day is today.  You see, my son turned 25 today.

One of the most significant changes for him is that his car insurance goes down to almost half of what it was yesterday.

Funny how one day makes a difference.

For our family, the Coming of Age Day is even more significant.

Come on Baby Light my Fire

My son is organizing things at his apartment and wanted me to help him out.  I jumped at the chance. I mean, how many of us have tried to get our kids to clean up just to become exhausted trying.  Of course, he is almost 25 and decided it was time to dispose of some things he’s had since middle school and before.

Most of it was movie props, etc. Let’s just say he has thrown away six 30 gallon bags of trash and taken a number of things he will no longer need to the curb for others to get some use out of them.

One of the things he said he could do without is an old remote control car.  It still worked so I suggested I take it home to practice my “manual dexterity.”

The nine volt battery was dead so we took one from my fire alarm just to try it out.  It worked, we played with it for awhile, put the battery back in the alarm, and set the car aside to get another fresh battery tomorrow.

It was about 11 at night at my place and I had a load of clothes in the wash.  I took time to slip the clothes in the dryer and began saying my goodbyes to my son so he could head on back to his place.  Some of the lights went out in the kitchen and I thought that was strange.  No sooner had I said something to him about it did the fire alarms all go off.

Calgone, Take me Away

If you’re as “mature” as I am, you’ll remember that commercial.  The lady is in a bathtub of bubbly water with a bar of Calgone soap and lots of little feet running and playing crazily in the background.  Briefly, as she soaks in the bubbles, she is dreaming of warm, sunny beaches and relaxing in the surf.

Life in our family has been like this the past month or so.  Not the relaxing in the tub part but the running around wildly like the kiddies in the commercial.
