Pierce Update #2

A brief update, since yesterday. 

Within an hour of the previous update, mom aspirated, which made her very, very short of breath, and induced severe shivering. They got that under control, but in an effort to better monitor her, they moved her to ICU.  Read the rest of this entry »

Pierce Update #1

This is the first of who knows how many updates I’ll be sharing on the Reflections site about what’s going on with mom. I anticipate writing once a week or so, but it may be more or less frequent, I’m not sure yet. 

 

We had arranged to stay at a friends apartment, who has been very generous with his offering to let us use his place while he stays with his girlfriend. A few hours after we got there, mom decided to take a nap. I then also took a nap after a few phone calls, but when I woke up mom was awake and rocking back and forth, trying to control her breathing better. This scared me a little, and after calling the hospital we decided to go to the ER.

A Month of Chemo

I got here to Houston yesterday and started getting sick as soon I got off the plane.  By five o’clock Monday I was in the hospital with chest pains and a promise to stay all night long for blood transfusions. 

It was a long night.  Three transfusions and I got to the doctor a half hour late the next morning.  However, she had to transfer me to a leukemia doctor as the blood tests indicated that I needed a different doctor.

Fly, Fly Away

Corporate Angels has found a corporation that is kindly willing to take us from Charlotte to Houston on Monday morning.  One of the over 500 corporate organizations offer to carry medically transportable patients and their caretakers for treatment all over the United States when they have unbooked seats.  We are fortunate enough to be two of those going on one of the flights Monday.  

So, we are on our way.
