A Month of Chemo

I got here to Houston yesterday and started getting sick as soon I got off the plane.  By five o’clock Monday I was in the hospital with chest pains and a promise to stay all night long for blood transfusions.

It was a long night.  Three transfusions and I got to the doctor a half hour late the next morning.  However, she had to transfer me to a leukemia doctor as the blood tests indicated that I needed a different doctor.

After many a test and a quick rest in the bed in the leukemia center, I got the news that my treatment was going to be a month of intense chemotherapy that starts immediately.  It must be done here in the hopes it takes the leukemia into remission so I can get healthier to do the bone marrow transplant.  My family members are on alert to receive a bone marrow donor package they must complete immediately to see if they area  match.  The doctors here are insistent my family be the only ones to do that at this point.

I am now waiting to get admitted into a room where I will be in isolation for a month.  They also promise a followup of a week chemo after that.

I am relieved to know I start treatment.  I’ve been told I have more pneumonia and am running a fever.  They are starting treatment for that immediately.

This is the latest update.  I am relieved to be among so many good doctors, nurses and staff.  I am ready to start this adventure and Pierce is right here with me.  Thanks, too, for all your support and prayers.

My wish for you today is that you embrace life as much as possible each day and be as positive as possible.  You just never know when Iife may change.
