I was reminded of the song “I’ve Been Working on the Railroad†today. You know the song. I just finished humming it to my 24 year old son. Here’s why.
The Republican Presidential hopefuls have been in town this week. Last night was the nationally televised “debate.â€
I had decided I wasn’t going anywhere near downtown these past three days of preparation and activities. There were demonstrators, so many reporter equipment and support vehicles they had to block off part of Assembly Street, heavy security and all these odd advertising vehicles you usually see in the big cities – but not in little ole Columbia.
I even saw the Oscar Meyer Weinermobile. Now tell my why they were here? To advertise their products or to suggest there were some real “wieners†amongst us?

It’s that time of year for people to be graduating from kindergarten high school, college.
We’ve always celebrated graduations in my family. I remember when my son finished pre school and there was a graduation ceremony. We had a great time celebrating his accomplishments.
You know how some parents can go a bit overboard when their children graduate?
That would be me.

Recently I sang for a “Picnic in the Park†event here in Columbia. One of the songs I sang was “I was Strolling in the Park one Day.†I’ve had that tune on my mind since then.
So, it has not been so unusual to hear me singing or whistling the tune early in the morning … appropriate, I think, since it is the “merry, merry month of May.â€
About now, many of you are probably thinking you sure are glad I’m not in your house singing and whistling early in the morning…regardless of the month.

Who would you be willing to give three cheers for if you had the chance?
Today, I would like to focus all my cheers for the mothers that raise their children alone.
The other day, one of my friends, Tyler, and her teenage triplets showed up at the most unusual place. My son was receiving an award for a movie he directed and they came to the awards ceremony.
Now you may not have thought that was so unusual, but stop to think. It was great that she took the time to come enjoy the festivities. It was even more amazing that all three of her TEENAGE boys came with her.
