The Wrestler – “Things That Comfort Me I Drive Away”

I just finished seeing “The Wrestler.”  I was fortunate enough to attend a private viewing of it early this morning.  To be honest, my life has been so busy lately that I didn’t even know about this movie even though the actor won best actor in a drama just recently.  It had just not come up on my radar so when I got the last minute invitation, I had to look at a quick preview on the internet to even be a bit aware of it before I went.

Down and Out in South Carolina – Part 3

He didn’t drive a car. He couldn’t afford gas or upkeep for one. For the past eight years he rode a bike back and forth to the few places he needed to go.  Friends drove him when he needed to get food from the grocery. 

Now, he had recovered “completely” except for an apparent equilibrium problem that might go away as time goes on.  He was encouraged.  He thought he would be able to find work somewhere…hopefully with one of the guys that drove.

Nothing Could be Finer…

I’ve been traveling in North Carolina this week.  When I do travel, I love to get a feel for the area I’m in.  That usually includes food and finding the local personalities that make the area special.  

Though I have a GPS system, thank goodness, I often have to turn around if my mind and eyes have taken me in a different direction than the GPS says to go. 

This week was no exception.  My son and I were on the way to see where a friend works and I missed the turn.  The British male voice on the GPS said “recalculating” quickly.  I decided to take matters into my own hands and turn in the parking lot of a nearby business.  

“Wait, wait.” my son said.  “If we turn here we have to go in.  Drive around back.”
