Killing Me Softly With His Song…
I had a call late tonight. It was a friend who had been reading some of my reflections and she was concerned. She said some of the more recent ones hit remarkably close to home with her. She said it was so close that she wondered if I were actually talking about her.Â
Our conversation made me think of the song Robert Flack made popular in 1971 – “Killing Me Softly With His Song.â€Â

I recently traveled to Pennsylvania for a week to visit friends. These days I have decided to drive to my destinations when I travel. I’ve found a love for driving I did not have when I was busily working and raising a family. My son went with me.Â
I’ve learned, as some of us have, that the most direct route is not always the prettiest. Instead of driving straight up 95 I decided to take 77 to 81. It was a more westerly route and carried us through the Shanandoah Valley area and in to some lovely mountains.Â

Yesterday I saw these two cars sitting side by side in a parking lot. It appeared one of them was having troubles. Jumper cables were in both men’s hands and they were obviously in hopes that the cables would provide the juice the car needed to get started. “Dead battery.†I said to myself in passing.
When I came back by later the cars were gone so I assume the jumper cables did the job. I don’t know about you, but I carry jumper cables in my car. There is a reason why. Many of us find that we need those jumper cables more than once along the way. Â
It occurred to me that life is like that. Sometimes you just need a little jump-start to get yourself going again. Â
