Climb Every Mountain
I love the Sound of Music. The Von Trapp family and the love plot are just my kind of diversion from everyday life. I particularly like the idea that they travel far and cross all kinds of mountains to get to a better place.Â
I thought of this song this morning as I was working with my physical therapist, Yvonne, to navigate stairs in the rehabilitation area of the hospital. Having been able now to walk with a walker fairly well, we knew it was time to try the stairs. I have to be able to get up 16 stairs to get to the bedroom I will stay in when I am ready to be released for outpatient treatment. This afternoon I went to the stairwell with my therapist and climbed 16 stairs – 9 at a time and came down without falling.Â
Climbing every stair is an effort. It’s a little easier coming down. I just have to be careful not to fall coming down and have found that stepping down backwards is easier than coming down like most people do. Â
Being released to climb those stairs and doing it well enough is my goal. They are saying that I probably will have done this enough to be released by them on Tuesday.Â
Don’t get too excited, though, I still have to deal with the medical team and the Leukemia team who could need me to take more chemo. I will find that out tomorrow. Â
There may be more mountains to climb yet. Â
My wish for you today is that you climb mountains with confidence when they come your way. A positive attitude when times are tough can go a long way toward getting through things. Â
