Being #1
Everyone likes to win. Some set goals to be the top in everything they do. Others have a specialty area they strive to be #1 in. Others don’t really care but, if it happens, they are happy. Some seek out those who are known for being number one when they need something special.Â
This is the case with me. Â
When I found out I had some serious medical issues I started looking for #1. Oh, it’s not to say that there weren’t some good options locally, but my husband had died of the same thing 23 years ago and I knew a great deal had changed since then. I was looking for the cutting edge of the treatment options. Â
I’ve been at M D Anderson Cancer Center in Houston since May 18th. They were just ranked #1 again for cancer treatment in the country.Â
I have been amazed with my treatment and the way they have taken some serious complications and treated them effectively. I am grateful for the fantastic staff…and I mean fantastic. They are positive, knowledgeable, energetic and enthusiastic … everything you need when you are dealing with a critical illness. Â
I do have a long road ahead of me if I am able to reach back to better health. Â I also know that I will be ok one way or the other and I take comfort in that.Â
Being #1 isn’t so bad. You don’t have to be that, but it can mean a great deal when talking about medical treatment.
My wish for you today is that you strive to be as healthy as possible and that, if it is not always the way you are, you look for #1 to help you out. Â Â

PS: Â Second day of rehab therapy provides opportunity for continued improvement. Â Before long I will be able to walk again.
