Pierce Update #7
Greetings!
Things are continuing to progress. Shortly after my last update I was informed that they wanted to do white cell donations for mom to fight off her infections. Her own white cell count has started to rise on it’s own, but in an effort to expedite her healing, they still want to do the donations.
I have had to coordinate who will be giving, as it’s a three day process and thus everyone has to be in Houston. Part of that process is giving yourself two shots later in the evening of the second day, which I did today. Tomorrow I’ll be giving, then over the following days a handful of generous contributors, some that we have not even met, will be giving for her.
When the time comes to do the transplant, she will be getting chemo from the transplant team. However, we were told today that they may do another round of chemo before that which will be a lighter round. We’ll advise further when we know the definite plan – just letting you know this is a possibility.
She’s still doing well, generally. Dr. Emil J. Freireich stopped by to see mom a few days ago. He’s what some would call the “father of leukemia” based on the amount of research and contributions he’s made in leukemia treatment. He had stopped in to explain the white cell donations and generally see how she was, but when he left a number of nurses and other staff wondered what was going on. Apparently he’s impossible to get a hold of, a sort of myth or ghost around the hospital, so of course mom thought that was awesome.
Thank you all again for your continued thoughts and well wishes.
Best,
Pierce
