Writing for the Body, Mind and Spirit – a class
Today I start teaching a writing class for eight weeks. A friend has opened her business – Spirit Abundant: The Joy of Self Discovery – to do what she is passionate about….helping others be the best they can be. That’s not an easy task in a world like we live in today. She will be in her office and meeting space three days a week or so and asked if I would like to teach a class during any of the other days. Â
Since I’ve discovered I am passionate about writingÂ
I offered to teach this writing class. Â We put the word out right before Christmas. It turns out there were enough adventurers out there to take it so here I am getting ready for my first group tonight from 6:30 – 8:30 here in the Irmo area.Â
After our first night of instruction and introductions we will be having a series of speakers each of the next six nights. They come from all walks of life. Our participants will listen to them talk for about an hour and then have a homework assignment of writing about them for the next class. The writing can be in any format they choose…poetry, short story, feature article – newspaper style…their choice.Â
Speakers include a cowboy, a filmmaker, a lawyer, a teacher, an advocate for our local natural resources, and a musician. Some of these may change, but right now these are the ones scheduled to be with us. Trying to list what these people are was a bit of a challenge. It was hard because we are all so much more than one thing in life. We fill many roles for many reasons. Â
I’m excited about our class tonight. The people taking the class come from such different backgrounds. The class location overlooks a beautiful park in Irmo. If the weather works with us over these next weeks we may take some of our classes out the park gazebo. Time will tell.Â
Come join us if you like. Call to register at 732-7767 or just show up at 1204 Lexington Avenue, Suite 2B in Irmo – right off Lake Murray Blvd behind Home Furniture. Class begins at 6:30 and lasts for two hours.Â
My wish for you today is that you embrace all parts of yourself as you follow your life’s adventures. Discovering who you are can be fun if you dare to be open to what and who you and others around you are.Â
