Inspired by Trixie
I met her at Uncle Bucks.Â
She was working there when I rushed in for a quick breakfast before a training session at the school district office in July. It was all of fifteen minutes we talked. Â
When I walked out the door, I had been inspired by Trixie. Â
Trixie’s husband had just found out he had cancer and was going to have to go in for treatments at a medical center in the city. She was confident she could take him and still be able to work – something she had to do for the family well-being. She was likely going to be doing a great deal of reading, sitting, waiting while she was with him. I could tell she was up for it.Â
Though I had little time to really talk with Trixie, I knew she had determination and spunk. She was just the kind of person you would want in your corner if you had cancer. Her husband was a lucky man, I thought to myself, to have her by his side.Â
I wished her luck as I hurried out. Â
Something told me to grab one of the books I wrote from the trunk of my car. I signed it with a quick note of encouragement and took it in to Trixie. I told her I had written a book and I wanted her to have a copy to read when she was with her husband in the treatment center…maybe she would like it and it would help her pass the time. She thanked me as I rushed out.Â
This morning, as I went through the pile of Christmas cards on my desk, one caught my eye. Â
Trixie? I thought? Virginia? “Who is….oh, wait….that’s Trixie!â€Â I said as my heart welled. As I quickly opened the card, I thought of our conversation and her husband’s treatments. Â
Inside was a card with a long note. Â
Once again I am inspired by Trixie. Her husband is doing as well as can be expected. They are patiently waiting to hear if the treatments have worked. She said she had read the book and “it helped me get through this.â€
Trixie invited me to come by when I get back in town. I am honored and will do my best to go by there again when my travels permit. I know I have a friend for life taking care of business at Uncle Bucks. I know her husband is so grateful to have her by his side this Christmas.Â
My wish for you today is that you look for the inspiration in your life each day. You just may be inspired by the simplest of encounters and maybe, just maybe, you will have the opportunity to inspire others, too.Â
