One Man’s Weed is Another Man’s Flower

I’ve been watching this lovely plant growing and growing in my little area beside the back door.  I thought it was a sunflower and have been anxiously awaiting it’s flowers that were so beautiful last year.

As the fall approached I realized it was not going to bloom into a lovely sunflower.  Now, I was not even sure it was one.

Within the past few days, white flowers have started blooming on that plant. They are lovely little delicate blossoms and I have been enjoying them through my kitchen window.

Meanwhile, I’ve been noticing the weeds and bushes are growing around my mailbox out front so I decided to get the trimmer and cut some of them down.  Most of the time I am carefully going to the mailbox after dark and didn’t want a spider or other little varmint to grab hold of me when I brush the bushes away while getting my mail.

Low and behold, there, in the midst of the bushes, were many of the same little white flowers that greet me at the back door these days.  I suppose that means the flowers at the back door are really weeds … yes, weeds!

I have not pulled that “weed” at my back door.  I did, however, cut the other ones down at the mailbox.

As I pondered these flowers at both locations, I decided that one man’s weed is another man’s flower.  After all, if you think about it, some of the most lovely flowers that come in vases delivered to your door really are nothing but weeds.  My favorites are the beautiful little purple flowers in the spring and the Queen Anne’s Lace that is so easy to brighten up in almost any color by adding food coloring to the water.

My flowers at the back door are weeds.  So what.  I like them anyway and that’s ok.  I just hope the yard man doesn’t see it and, being a wiser person than me about flowers, pulls it because he knows it’s a weed!

My wish for you today is that you enjoy flowers wherever they are and whenever you can.  Hopefully, you will be the recipient of flowers many times in your life….be it weed or otherwise!
