Takin’ a Walk on the High Side
My friend, Annette, and I love to walk on the dam. It’s about a two mile walk from one side to the other with one view of the spacious Lake Murray on one side and a magnificent view of Columbia, South Carolina on the other. Thank goodness the walking path is on the high side of the dam that is flat and separated from the vehicle traffic.Â
Some mornings we manage a two and one half mile walk. Others we walk all the way back and forth usually finishing around 8:00 a.m.Â
The other morning it was a particularly eventful walk.Â
You see, on one side of the dam – over the lake – was the beginning of a most beautiful rainbow…a sign of hope that is always good to be reminded of. Before it formed totally, however, it disappeared as fast as it appeared.Â
On the other side – peeking out from behind the clouds – was the formation of one of the most magnificent sunrises I’ve seen in awhile. The skies quickly lit up with shades of red and gold….and just as quickly disappeared when the cloud cover became more thorough.Â
Just as quickly came the gentle rain that was just enough to say we were getting wet. We had walked halfway and there was little choice but to turn around and walk back while the drops hit our face. Â
We both agreed the walk was particularly nice that morning. After all, when can you see a beautiful rainbow, a gorgeous sunrise, walk in the cool and have a little fresh rain to wet the brow, what more could you ask for?
My wish for you today is that you enjoy a brisk walk in a safe place as often as you can. Don’t forget to take a friend with you.Â
