Getting Married During Hannah

Yesterday I helped my friend, Tyler, in last minute preparations for her wedding.  We had a bachelorette party of sorts the night before … wound up at Mama Mia’s for an evening of laughing with six others.

With Hurricane Hanna coming in and it being a friday evening wedding, we weren’t sure it wasn’t going to be forced to be a candlelight affair so prepared accordingly.

The rains poured down about the time we agreed to meet at the church.  We had to get the cake in, the flowers placed, and all the last minute details worked out.  Her sister had come in from Rhode Island right before the rain and wind began. The music changed at the last minute and I wound up playing the piano…something I love to do when I can play without written music.

Within hours the place looked great…ready for a lovely wedding regardless of the weather outside.  It went off without a hitch.  No power outages, no delays, just plenty of rain and lots of love.

If you knew Tyler and Paul, you would know that a little thing like a hurricane wouldn’t stop them from moving on with their lives.  You see, they are pretty rugged individuals.  She has raised three boys – identical triplets – all who went off to different colleges just a few weeks ago to start their own lives.

Paul is one of my cowboy friends. His wife died a few years ago in a tragic car accident.  We all grieved for him and now we are all equally as happy for him that he has found Tyler and they decided to start a new life together. We have high hopes for our friends that their marriage will last a long time and they will grow older and happier together.

My wish for you today is that you have a chance to experience this kind of love at least once in your life.  The happiness and the challenges are more than worth it.  Best wishes, Tyler and Paul.
