Mama Mia!

Have you seen the movie, Mama Mia?  If not, you should…particularly if you are part of the baby boomers generation.

I’ve seen the movie three times now.

The last time was in a theatre in Luray, Virginia that was originally opened on Labor Day – 1939.  It has been remodeled since then and the owner is a delightful little man with a quiet demeanor.  He made it his mission several years ago to decorate in a unique way as he tried to keep the flavor of the original site.  It was as much a pleasure to see the theatre as it was the movie.

I identify with the lead actress – played by Meryl Streep.  She raised a child on her own for over 20 years and became an independent woman who ran a business while raising her child to be a confidant woman.  I raised my son to be an independent thinker and to follow his dreams…which he does to this day.

Another thing that happens in this film is that Meryl becomes “reacquainted” with her sweetheart…well actually THREE of her former sweethearts.    Three years ago that happened to me after a 30 year absence from one another.  We see each other regularly now even though we are in two separate cities.

The difference for me is that I am seeing just one of my former sweethearts…and that is quite enough for me.

Without giving the movie plot away, you may want to just check it out.  The actors sing their way through two delightful hours of fun and frolic…AND solving dilemmas that were over 20 years old…with a surprising and uplifting ending!

My wish for you today is that you embrace life and enjoy it to the fullest.  It’s just too short a time on this earth to do anything else.
