To Beard or Not to Beard
I love a man with a beard. There’s something about that rustic look that appeals to me. I can’t help it.Â
It could be my country upbringing. It could just be that a man with a well groomed beard is a sexy site to me.Â
A friend of mine had to grow a beard recently for an event that was coming up. It took him three weeks to grow it out so it would look good. I admired it as he grew it out. He was becoming a more rugged looking individual…perfect for the part he was to play.
After the event he debated whether to keep it for awhile or shave it off. He finally decided to keep it until spring…at least that’s what he said.Â
You can imagine the shock, then, when I saw him this morning and he was clean shaven.Â
It reminded me of the time my husband – who had a beard all my son’s early life – decided to shave it off. We were in Nashville, Tennessee on a trip and getting ready for an evening out on the town. I had bought a new “country” denim dress and I was going to surprise him with it. He came out of the bathroom after an extend shower time. Low and behold, he was clean shaven. It had been eight years since I saw him with a clean face. He was happy that he’d shaved. It took some getting used to on my part, however.
We got home from Tennessee late one night shortly after that. The next morning our young son came to give me a morning hug. He went around to the other side of the bed and was silent….slowly coming around to my side of the bed and said “Mom, who is that man in the bed with you?”
My wish for you today is that you appreciate men whether they have a beard or not. Rustic or clean shaven, they all have their special qualities.Â
