The Skinny Chicken

I’m not sure I’ve mentioned this before, but I often nickname events with some funny little name that causes me to remember the activity. Not that I need a name to remember when I have a good time, but remembering the name can bring a smile to my face when I recall it.

Last night was one of those events worth naming. Several of us decided to gather for dinner at Macaroni Grill at the last minute. We had been there for some time talking and hadn’t decided what we wanted to eat…at least I hadn’t. After the patient waiter arrived back the seventh time to take our order and I still had not looked at the menu, we decided to go ahead and I would know what I wanted by the time he got to me.

They all spewed their selection off in no time and hear I was…having to make a decision. I spotted “the skinny chicken” on the menu and ordered it…with no pepper and tomatoes. We laughed at the name…I sure hoped it would be good. I didn’t even look at what it was…just the name was enough for me…at least I hoped so.

The manager came over and visited with us for awhile. We must have caught his attention because we were laughing and enjoying ourselves…not obnoxiously so understand but with a zest for living that didn’t appear at every table that night. We had a great evening just talking and enjoying each other’s company. The food came, the skinny chicken was fantastic, and we left some three hours later after consuming a luscious dessert the manager brought over for us to enjoy.

My wish for you today is that you savor moments in life like “the skinny chicken” and recall them with a smile. Life is just too short to waste it away not savoring each opportunity to enjoy life with good people.
