All Shook Up

It’s a tragedy in Peru.

But for the grace of God, we could be there, too. You see, the Columbia area is on a major fault. Miles below the earth there could be the potential for the same thing happening here.

I think what makes it so tragic there is that they have lived in that area for years with their less that earthquake prepared region. They are, in many ways, simple people who don’t enjoy the extravagances we have here in the States. Not that any of us are really prepared for disaster, but I suspect, materially, they are less prepared than we are.

I also think that they are a resilient people…those Peruvians. Over the next weeks and months we may just see how people can rise to the occasion to make the best of a tragic situation. We will likely see models of strength and wonder if we would be able to recover as they do with the dignity and courage many of them will show as they rebuild their lives.

Time will tell and I, as well as many of us, will be watching closely.

My wish for you today is that you always be aware of how you can serve in times of disaster. It may be as simple as to give blood regularly or share you spare change…but the fact of the matter is, in time of tragedy, you have many opportunities to do your part.
