Collectables
Do you collect things? Perhaps a certain thing like designer plates, cups and saucers, bells, cars, footballs, etc?
I have a friend who collects John Wayne memorabilia.
Now that is great with one exception. He wants to display all of it and he had a great many things with John Wayne on them.
At first I thought it was cute until I walked into his place and it was all over the walls, on the tables…etc. It’s like a John Wayne museum in his place.
I BET you know someone who collects things like my friend.
I think it’s great to be passionate about something. Don’t get me wrong.
I do wonder, however, what will become of his collectables when they are gone if he doesn’t plan on making sure they are left to someone who has that same feeling about John Wayne memorabilia. It would be a shame for my friend to leave these things to someone who did not have that same passion for them OR for them to wind up in a yard sale somewhere.
I remember another friend collected over 100 busts of various important figures. He died and his loved ones were left with the challenge of distributing them appropriately. After awhile, all the busts were the same. They did lots of research to find out that one of them was even valued and sold for over $2,000…and to think they were ready to sell them for near nothing.
My wish for you today is, if you are a serious collector of things, that you make sure your loved ones know about them and their importance to you. Make sure you make plans to leave them to someone who values them as much as you do. Happy collecting!
