When It’s All Said and Done
A friend died today. As I get older, I suspect I will be saying this more often.
 She was a wonderful lady…over 80 and full of life. She had been a widow for well over 30 years. She was well off and lived a life surrounded by friends and family.
I thought of her and dropped a card to her family when I heard. She lived in a small SC community and was quite content to be there among those she loved. She will not be forgotten. Our lives have been better because she was in them.
When it’s all said and done, it’s the ones that love us, care for us and let us care of them, and the contentment of life that brings us the most joy. It’s not the money or things we have, it’s not what we wear or how we look. It’s not what our job is or where we are on a career ladder.
It is really what is in our heart and what we do to make life a little more enjoyable or at least bearable for others.
She was a giver and seemed to care little about what she received from others. I know, however, that she appreciated all those who came to visit her, care for her, and allowed her to care for them as well as she could. Her example was one to follow. I strive to be like her but come woefully short…still, I try.
My wish for you today is that you embrace what is really important in life and enjoy it to the fullest for as long as you have here on this earth…sharing the good fortune you have with others and embracing your faith as a base for those actions…just like my 80 plus friend who, I believe, did it for most of her years.
