A Different World
Bucky Covington sings this country song called “A Different World.â€
I don’t know how old he is. He looks younger than me but his description of his childhood and growing up in the song sounds similar to mine.
Yes, it was a different world then.
Who would have thought we would carry phones around with us, not do simple math in our heads or on paper instead of counting on calculators, and would have air conditioning everywhere?
Another one of the things that makes me thing this is a different world today has to do with politics.
Who would have thought that the appearance of a successful political campaign is wrapped around how much money someone can raise?
Think about it. Someone very close to me mentioned to me yesterday. Ever since he said that I keep thinking of it.
Who in the world would have thought anyone’s success could hinge on raising millions of dollars for a campaign bid?
I don’t know about you, but wouldn’t you think that political campaign money could be used for helping others out that don’t have food to eat or clothes to wear? Couldn’t it be better used for taking care of vital problems like pollution, global warming, border patrols, etc?
Personally, I believe there ought to be a cap on how much someone can spend on political campaigning in this country. Enough is enough.
What would happen to a candidate that utilized campaign money for worthy causes? Oh, they would probably get sued by the donator for mismanagement of funds.
They would get my vote, though.
My wish for you today is that you watch carefully at the kind of monies political campaigns raise and see how they spend it. If you feel strongly about the excesses that occur during election years, contact your legislator and begin to raise these questions. Perhaps it’s time we say enough is enough and take steps to make it a different world.
