I recently received an e-mail from my niece that got me to thinking about something we all need to consider. Here are a few excerpts and I hope you’ll agree it’s worth the time to do this.
…Okay, so I normally don’t do this kind of thing, and most of the time it irritates me when people send me these, but this one is about a cause that’s really important to me. Apparently people have to have mastectomies as outpatient procedures because insurance companies will not pay for an overnight stay in a hospital.
Personally, I think this is horrible, as having cancer itself is bad enough… but to be sent home with your drainage tubes still attached and groggy from the anesthesia is absolutely atrocious.
So, in short, below is a petition to make the procedure have a mandatory 48 hour stay afterwards. If it’s something you feel compelled to do, go to the site and read up about it and make your own decision about what kind of involvement you’d like to have.

My wish for you today is that you or your loved one never has to experience this kind of situation. Consider helping others who do have a little more time for the adjustments they must face.
