The Next Best Thing?

Have you seen the show “The Next Best Thing?” This reality based television show has impersonators of famous people competing for “the prize.”

Most of them are exceptional actors and actresses who “become” the famous person of their choice.

I like the show, but I wonder if in reality that is such a good idea?

I mean these people obsess about the characters they play. They’ve read and seen everything there is about the person they “become” and that’s really amazing.

I wonder if they get lost in this role and forget who they really are deep inside?

As a child, we’ve all seen some try their best to be like others to fit in. That included such things are wearing just the right clothes, talking and acting like that person, befriending someone just because they are friends of the person you want to be friends with. You know the drill. Heck, even adults do this sometimes.

Now there’s nothing wrong with the dream. But in reality, it takes hard work to make it at anything.

A dose of the next best thing to pretending to be someone or something you aren’t is to actually set goals to accomplish what you want to do and work hard to make it happen…and along the way…be who you REALLY are…yes, the true you.

My wish for you today is that you always be yourself as you walk down life’s road. It’s hard enough just to make it day by day. To really make the difference, take your positives and enhance them, be compassionate whenever you can, and share the love your faith brings you with those you meet along the way. Now that’s the next best thing to being something you are not.
