Camptown Races Here we Come, Doh Dah!
Today I went to the racetrack.
For some, that might mean going to the Darlington speedway to see the cars zoom around the track at ungodly speeds. Others of us in South Carolina may think of Camden and the horse races there at the Cup.
For me, being that I’m on vacation in NJ and one of my friends here LOVES to go to the horse races, we went to Monmouth Park to spend the day watching.
I’ve never been to any horse race before and I discovered I was in for a treat.
Monmouth Racetrack was a stately place. Since I was with someone who enjoys going there fairly often, he took us to an air-conditioned clubhouse with wait staff taking care of our every
need. The glass wall overlooking the track allowed for a clear view of both a dirt track and grass track as well as the all important finish line. Both were well manicured and being readied for the nine races of the day.
The horses were magnificent steeds and the races were action
packed. We even had the opportunity to view horses and jockeys closely as they readied for the races.
After “investing†in most of the races with someone who was a master reviewer and planner, it was easy to see how someone could get hooked on being there often.
When all was said and done, we won some and lost some. We also had a great time visiting, taking in the sites. It was a perfect 72 degrees outside and the winds were ever so gentle throughout the day.
My wish for you today is that you enjoy the scenery wherever you are…remembering that being responsible with yourself and your resources is essential to a good time.
