Yard Sailing or On a Mission
Have you ever been to a yard sale by accident or on purpose?
You meet the nicest people at yard sales.
Yesterday, in the middle of the week no less, I saw several as I was driving through the countryside. I don’t know if that’s a Northern thing to have them during the week or not, but in the South, you mainly see yard sales on Saturday mornings.
I have a teacher friend that goes to them faithfully every Saturday. She comes back with the most amazing things. I still don’t quite understand why she gets some of the things she does but I guess one man’s junk is another woman’s treasure.
She actually inspired me to do that for awhile so on Friday morning, when the yard sale ads appeared in the paper, I strategically found the path to take from one to the other. I set out early the next morning to visit all 21 of them in as tight a timeframe as possible.
It was so much fun that, as I shared what I was doing with my girlfriends, some of them decided to meet me and make it an adventure together.
Now I am on a specific mission to find something.
I am looking for ties…specifically men’s ties. I am starting a project where I need to find as many as possible. Since they are so expensive and I need so many, I can not afford to buy them, so I am going to yard sales and ask my friends if they will share ones they don’t want anymore with me. I am going to recycle them to make something useful…at least I am going to attempt to.
It should be fun.
My wish for you today is that you go to a yard sale if you haven’t had a chance to go to one before. Take your thermos of coffee and make sure you know where you’re going. Speak kindly to those you come in contact with. You may just find some enjoyable experiences and find a few things you can’t do without in the process.
