50 and Still Single
So you’re 50ish and still looking for Mr./Ms. Right?
By this time, people have probably stopped asking when you are going to get married. They figured out you are not marriage material OR that you made a responsible decision not to get hitched just for the sake of it. After all, many marriages end in divorce so why not just love um and leave um?
I am in my mid 50s. Though I have been married to a wonderful man who passed away at a young age, I have been single for over 18 years. I decided long ago that a second marriage might not be in the cards for me so to savor life as a single woman and be happy with the one good one I had.
It’s really not so bad being single.
I have many good men friends and several years ago became “reacquainted†with my college sweetheart after 30 years. He is a dear and I suspect we will be together the rest of our lives in some form or fashion. He still works. I am soon to be retired and have set off on a new business venture. He lives in Charleston. I live in Columbia. We’ll see how it pans out over the long run.
Meanwhile, I have a surprising number of female friends in or near their 50’s that have simply never been married. All are looking. Few are finding what they want in a permanent mate.
There is hope, though.
One of these friends called last night to see if I could share a quick dinner with her.
She had a surprise for me.
She’s engaged and had a ring to prove it.
My wish for you today is, if you are 50 and single, and still looking for the right mate in your life, that you find just that right person. Meanwhile, have lots of fun with all those other people in your life that make it rich. Who knows, you may just find that right person amongst your many friends or rediscover a lost treasure.
