This Little Light of Mine

So I almost didn’t go. I mean, after all, do I really want to do this?

Retire, I mean…for good?

Last night there was a celebration in my school district. Since I retired during this school year, I was one of the honorees. Families were invited so I invited my mother, my son and my good friend Etta who is like a second mother.

It was great to have them there. retirement-event-at-district-5-22-2007-007.jpg

As I moved back and forth across the room I spoke to people I had worked with for 15 years in the District. It was great to talk with them and to see all the others who were there to celebrate with us.

So when you retire, what will you do? Have you even thought about it?

I don’t care if you are 70 or 15…it’s something to think about as you make your goals and live out your dreams. I believe it is part of the planning…part of the intrigue…part of the unknown.

I prefer to look at retirement as a graduation into another part of life.

One thing I do know, though, is that my light will not stop shining because I retire. It will burn just as bright in the new adventures life brings to me.

Finally, I don’t HAVE to get up early in the morning. I can get up on my own terms, venture out on my own time, and chose to do what I do for a living or not … be it lounge around or take on a new business venture … like I have chosen to do with www.ellenrose.net .

I had the honor of sitting between two great guys who were also retiring from the District Office. One has the high stress job of managing finances in the District and the other has the high stress task of managing the print shop. Both are great guys who have a passion for living.

Yes, I prefer to process this retirement as sharing “this little light of mine” in a new way.

My wish for you today is that you always let your light shine strongly throughout your life…no matter how old you are, no matter what your job is, no matter what your goals are.
