Yo Ho, Yo Ho, A Pirate’s Life for Me
Some time ago I was reviewing some of my genealogy papers.
Come to find out, I had a pirate or two on both sides of my family…maybe that’s the reason I was drawn to see the tall ships in Charleston’s port this past weekend as part of the Maritime Festival.
There were pirates and even a few “wenches†acting out their dreams of being maties on the high seas.
The ships were magnificent. As I walked that pier visiting each one, I dreamed of what it would be like to be carefree and sail the world from port to port.
Yes, I suspect a pirate’s life was full of color and intrigue…also one of lots of hard work and danger. I listened to what these folks had to do to keep the ships in tip top shape. I suspect the glamour wears off quickly and you either work hard on deck or you’re booted off – or worse – made to walk the gangplank!
I decided I could have been a part of that life back then…but only if I were the queen. It seemed way too much work for my liking…and I don’t usually fret hard work, mind you.
My wish for you today is that you get a chance to see these tall, magnificent ships when they are in port along your way. It will make you hum “yo, ho, yo, ho a pirates life for me†just like I did all weekend.
