{"id":667,"date":"2009-10-12T22:57:37","date_gmt":"2009-10-13T02:57:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/reflectionsfromacountrygirl.com\/?p=667"},"modified":"2009-10-12T22:57:37","modified_gmt":"2009-10-13T02:57:37","slug":"14-days","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reflectionsfromacountrygirl.com\/?p=667","title":{"rendered":"14 Days"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\">Have you ever gotten sick and had to take antibiotics?\u00c2\u00a0 Usually you get a 14 day prescription and you have to take every bit of it to make sure you are over whatever it is you had.\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; min-height: 14px; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\">When I got out of the hospital this time, I was told I needed to get 14 days worth of several drugs&#8230;all intravenously and over a six and one-half hour period.\u00c2\u00a0 I go to a transfusion unit, take some premeds that essentially knock me out because of some side effects, and six hours later I get to leave.\u00c2\u00a0 That is, unless I am there on a day where I need platelets and blood.\u00c2\u00a0 Platelets take one hour.\u00c2\u00a0 Blood takes three hours for each &#8211; and sometime I have to have two bags.\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; min-height: 14px; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\">If I have to have potassium and\/or magnesium it is another four to five hours. I just recently began being able to take the last two in a portable portion. Pierce takes care of unhooking them, flushing the line and giving me a bit of heparin after they are done. \u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; min-height: 14px; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\">I get to know the staff at the ATC transfusion unit at MD Anderson Cancer Center real well. They are some of the kindest and most patient people I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve seen. \u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; min-height: 14px; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\">There are patients I overhear who are rude and very unkind to the staff.\u00c2\u00a0 Of course, many of those are suffering and trying to deal with their cancer in different ways.\u00c2\u00a0 The staff knows that, but I know it takes all their skills to be patient. \u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; min-height: 14px; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\">I can tell you they don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t get enough of a salary to warrant some of the things I hear people saying.\u00c2\u00a0 I said that once to one of the staff and she said she was not in it for the money.
