{"id":653,"date":"2009-08-17T10:08:45","date_gmt":"2009-08-17T14:08:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/reflectionsfromacountrygirl.com\/?p=653"},"modified":"2009-08-17T10:29:15","modified_gmt":"2009-08-17T14:29:15","slug":"living-a-day-at-a-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reflectionsfromacountrygirl.com\/?p=653","title":{"rendered":"Living a Day at a Time"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\">I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m not sure I told you, but being here in Texas, away from family, and having a newly diagnosed disease has been pretty overwhelming. \u00c2\u00a0 Not in\u00c2\u00a0 a bad way, mind you, but jut different.\u00c2\u00a0 Texas is BIG and though I have not seen much of it thus far, Houston in itself is huge. \u00c2\u00a0 I do think Texas does things in a big way &#8211; including the cancer center here.\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; min-height: 14px; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\">I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve finished chemo last Tuesday and came in for blood work and results of that as a followup on Thursday at 6;45 a.m.\u00c2\u00a0 They sent me straight to the emergency room and 13 hours later I was leaving after transfusions of platelets and two pints of blood. \u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; min-height: 14px; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\">This as my first experience as an outpatient here in the emergency room.\u00c2\u00a0 As I waited I heard they had 33 patients waiting to get in on one of the three leukemia floors. They were able to take care of mine without making me the 34th. \u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; min-height: 14px; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\">As I pondered my feelings about being sick, now riding around in a wheelchair, and using a walker the other time, I could really be overwhelmed beyond belief.\u00c2\u00a0 It is certainly a different life going to a restaurant or a pub.\u00c2\u00a0 We went to a british restaurant the other night and they had to get the ramp and put it out so I could get in. \u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; min-height: 14px; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\">It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s also interesting how people respond to you when you are out in public.\u00c2\u00a0 Some turn their head, others greet you with a smile and a hello.\u00c2\u00a0 Still others will offer to reach something for you if it appears too high for me to reach.\u00c2\u00a0 One man even offered to help Pierce get the wheelchair in the car, telling his story of having a family member who had been wheelchair bound.\u00c2\u00a0 Most are very friendly. \u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; min-height: 14px; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\">Many of your cards have said, one day at a time.\u00c2\u00a0 I hear nurses and friends here say the same thing.\u00c2\u00a0 When you look at it that way, it seem manageable.\u00c2\u00a0 I also hear that the more positive you are the better. \u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; min-height: 14px; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\">After all, it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s all about living from day to day, especially since we really are not guaranteed anything beyond that.
