I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve been traveling in North Carolina this week.\u00c2\u00a0 When I do travel, I love to get a feel for the area I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m in.\u00c2\u00a0 That usually includes food and finding the local personalities that make the area special. \u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Though I have a GPS system, thank goodness, I often have to turn around if my mind and eyes have taken me in a different direction than the GPS says to go.\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

This week was no exception.\u00c2\u00a0 My son and I were on the way to see where a friend works and I missed the turn.\u00c2\u00a0 The British male voice on the GPS said \u00e2\u20ac\u0153recalculating\u00e2\u20ac\u009d quickly.\u00c2\u00a0 I decided to take matters into my own hands and turn in the parking lot of a nearby business. \u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Wait, wait.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d my son said.\u00c2\u00a0 \u00e2\u20ac\u0153If we turn here we have to go in.\u00c2\u00a0 Drive around back.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

I smiled as I drove to the back of the building and around. \u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

He had been to the Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill area a bit more than me, but how in the world did he know this place?\u00c2\u00a0 It was a very unassuming, laid back kind of establishment. \u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

I quickly saw why it was memorable to him as I arrived at the back of the property and slowed down.\u00c2\u00a0 There was a lovely clearing with picnic tables sprawled over green grass.\u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u0153You can eat out here when the weather is nice.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00c2\u00a0 He continued.\u00c2\u00a0 \u00e2\u20ac\u0153This is really great BBQ.\u00c2\u00a0 Lets go in.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/span><\/p>\n

We pulled around front, got out of the car, and stepped through the doors.\u00c2\u00a0 It was a simple place inside.\u00c2\u00a0 A big grin came across the face of the man sitting there. \u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Thought you were lost.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d He said.\u00c2\u00a0 \u00e2\u20ac\u0153We were having a staff meeting and saw this woman with a big smile on her face driving through our lot. You won\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t believe how many lost people turn around here.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d He continued. \u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

We were quickly engaged in conversation with Kevin, the owner.\u00c2\u00a0 My son explained he had been there several times and liked their BBQ.\u00c2\u00a0 We decided to get a plate that allowed for both of us to get what we wanted.\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

While we waited for it, we visited.\u00c2\u00a0 Seems Kevin had decided to open about a year ago.\u00c2\u00a0 He serves all kinds of tasty BBQ treats.\u00c2\u00a0 There are plenty of choices for the hungry visitor. \u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

The food came.\u00c2\u00a0 It was very tasty.\u00c2\u00a0 I had chicken.\u00c2\u00a0 He had pork.\u00c2\u00a0 The sides were just as scrumptious as the meat.\u00c2\u00a0 I was hooked.\u00c2\u00a0 But not just because of the food.\u00c2\u00a0 Kevin was a cool guy and had lots of stories to tell. Being a storyteller myself, we were quickly talking about the country, the people, and even the local activities – some of which I am part of in SC and was curious about in the area.\u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll definitely remember my visit there at Smokey\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s BBQ Shack located at 10800 Chapel Hill Road (Hwy 54) Morrisville, NC 27560.\u00c2\u00a0 They\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re open every day but Sunday…\u00c2\u00a0www.SmokeysShack.com<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0.\u00c2\u00a0I even hear they cater and the folks I know who have used them before say they are the best.\u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Kevin was delightful.\u00c2\u00a0 The food was fantastic, and I have a great memory of good times there now.\u00c2\u00a0 I would highly recommend it and encourage you to stop by, smile as you drive around back and wave.\u00c2\u00a0 Then I suggest parking out front, open that red door, and enjoy a great meal either inside or out on one of the many picnic tables out back.\u00c2\u00a0 You\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll be glad to stopped by for BBQ -\u00c2\u00a0 North Carolina style.\u00c2\u00a0 Nothing could be finer. \u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
