Two and one half hours down the road I rented a room at a local Myrtle Beach hotel and prepared to meet a friend who was in town on business. It had been several years since I saw her.\u00c2\u00a0 She was a colleague in the last job I worked in before retirement.\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

I love talking with her.\u00c2\u00a0 She is a wise woman, has two lovely children and a husband she adores, and is very good at her work.\u00c2\u00a0 We had a chance to catch up on what we and our children were doing over dinner at a restaurant on the beach. Before I knew it was three hours later. \u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

She had a remarkable grandmother and she never ceases to bring up one or two of her grandmother\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s witticisms when we talk.\u00c2\u00a0 They most often are connected to work or family issues.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I always consider them little mini lessons about life. \u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This time we talked about my recent breakup with a man I dated for over three years.\u00c2\u00a0 My situation, she said, brought up a past memory.\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

She told me the story of a young man she thought \u00e2\u20ac\u0153was the one\u00e2\u20ac\u009d when she first started dating.\u00c2\u00a0 She wanted him to meet her grandmother who, she knew, would size him up quickly. \u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

It was awhile before her grandmother talked with her about their encounter.\u00c2\u00a0 The grandmother was as kind as she was wise.\u00c2\u00a0 She never really directly spoke of him to my friend.\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Sweetie, I want you to be happy.\u00c2\u00a0 You should be looking for a man you can give 100% to and you should always feel you are getting just a little more than that from him.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00c2\u00a0She then proceeded to say that she looked for a man who \u00e2\u20ac\u0153had no assembly required and came with batteries!\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00c2\u00a0 After we laughed we pondered that for awhile. \u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

She was right.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

That is what we all need in our relationships with the opposite sex.\u00c2\u00a0 It is what we all deserve. \u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

To sum it up, then, I am looking for someone who is mature and loving enough to be in a relationship where he is willing to give 100%…knowing all the while that I will give that same 100% and \u00e2\u20ac\u0153just a little more\u00e2\u20ac\u009d … someone who is put together nicely already and who is looking for a woman who will only enhance his life even more … someone who is confident enough in himself where he doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t need me but wants me to be there in his life because I make it better … someone who manages himself well in his personal and professional life … someone who knows he is a compassionate and caring man and who also appreciates all the positive qualities in me that I have to offer. \u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

George Eliot said it in such an elegant way…\u00e2\u20ac\u009dto find the comfort, the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but pouring all right out just as they are, chaff and grain together, certain that … will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping and with a breath of comfort, blow the rest away.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/span><\/p>\n

My wish for you today<\/strong> is that you find that special someone in your life that has no assembly required, batteries included, and that makes you feel safe and at peace.\u00c2\u00a0 Hold out for it.\u00c2\u00a0 Don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t put yourself on sale by settling for less. \u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
