He was peering into the windows&#8230;sitting completely still as he blinked at me several times. At first I was startled and then I was reminded I was having a visit from my night time friend. \u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; min-height: 14px; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\">I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve heard him outside frequently these last few weeks.\u00c2\u00a0 He usually comes to visit around 3 a.m. &#8211; then again just before dawn &#8211; and talks in those distinctive tones that I have come to enjoy.\u00c2\u00a0 Numerous times as of late he has been there when I come home in the evening.\u00c2\u00a0 When he stays nearby we spend a few minutes looking at each before I head into the house. \u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; min-height: 14px; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\">Several nights ago he glided over my son\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s head as we got out of the car. We saw his four foot dark image fly across the light and to the other side of the house where he likes to sit near the patio.\u00c2\u00a0 \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Batman.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d I said without even thinking as we both smiled.\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; min-height: 14px; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\">You see, the barn owl is back. \u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; min-height: 14px; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\">It is interesting that this owl chooses my trees to spend time in regularly.\u00c2\u00a0 There are few reasons I can see why he chooses it except that the eating is pretty good here, the company isn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t too bad, and I can use all the good fortune I can muster up. They say owls are an omen of good things to come.\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; min-height: 14px; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\">Last year he fought a neighborhood cat for a mouse in my front yard late one night. Then there are those pesky palmetto bugs that appear often between the wood slats of my patio deck. Owls love to eat both mice and bugs.\u00c2\u00a0 So, come to think if it, I may now know that he is not just coming to see me in the dark, but to find his meal for the evening.\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; min-height: 14px; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\">Regardless, it is nice to hear that calming hoot out there in the darkness of the night.\u00c2\u00a0 I like hearing his \u00e2\u20ac\u0153whoo, whoo, whoo.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; min-height: 14px; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\"><strong>My wish for you today<\/strong> is that you enjoy these pleasant encounters with nature whenever you can.\u00c2\u00a0 Be safe, but savor the moments. \u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; min-height: 14px; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font: normal normal normal 12px\/normal Helvetica; margin: 0px\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\">~ Joellen<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It was well after dark last night as I was about to close the french door blinds for the evening.
