You know by now, most holidays – for me – relate to some song or the other.\u00c2\u00a0 This coming Labor Day is no exception. \u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Many of us remember the 1966 hit song Lee Dorsey sang…Workin\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 in the Coal Mine.\u00c2\u00a0I started humming that song in preparation for the weekend.\u00c2\u00a0 After all, Labor Day is a day when many of us are off work and may be having a cookout with family and friends. \u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

So why do we celebrate Labor Day, anyway?<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

The US Department of Labor tells us that Labor Day is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and the well-being of our country.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

That\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s straightforward enough for me.\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

In simpler terms, its a time to celebrate the fact that most of us have jobs to go to day in and day out and that we spend that hard earned money to keep the economy going.\u00c2\u00a0 Never mind that the money we make buys less and less. I suspect we should be grateful that we have those jobs – no matter how much of a pain they can be sometimes. \u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

My wish for you today<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0is that you have a good job you enjoy going to, that it pays you well for the work you do, and that you have health benefits included.\u00c2\u00a0 If you don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t like your current job situation, Labor Day may be a day you can use to consider your next employment adventure.\u00c2\u00a0 It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s never too late to make a change if you feel you need to. \u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
