{"id":400,"date":"2007-09-19T09:30:47","date_gmt":"2007-09-19T13:30:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/reflectionsfromacountrygirl.com\/?p=400"},"modified":"2007-09-19T09:32:08","modified_gmt":"2007-09-19T13:32:08","slug":"would-you-encourage-your-child-to-follow-hisher-dreams-if-there-was-danger-involved","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reflectionsfromacountrygirl.com\/?p=400","title":{"rendered":"Would You Encourage Your Child to Follow His\/Her Dreams if There was Danger Involved?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">I had a call yesterday.<span>  <\/span>It was my son who had been asked to go out of state to film an event that has danger associated with it for those who will participate and cover the event.<span>  <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><!--more-->My first reaction was to discourage him from going.<span>  <\/span>Other of his relatives would certainly do that.<span>  <\/span>After all, no one wants their child in harms way.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">As we discussed the pros and cons of going, I asked him would he feel ok about having made the choice if something happened to him or any of the crew.<span>  <\/span>His answer was, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153you know this is what I love to do.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">He decided to go so today he makes the 12 hour trip with his other film colleagues, they film all day tomorrow, and then come right back to town.<span>  <\/span>I asked him late yesterday if \u00e2\u20ac\u201c after he said he would go \u00e2\u20ac\u201c did he regret it.<span>  <\/span>He smiled.<span>  <\/span>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153You KNOW this is what I like to do.<span>  <\/span>I am excited about going!\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>I am sure proud of my son.<span>  <\/span>I was honored that he asked me to think about it with him.<span>  <\/span>That\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s all any mother or father should want\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6is that their child will ask their advice about the important decisions.<span>  <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Am I concerned about his safety?<span>  <\/span>Darn right I am.<span>  <\/span>He even had to sign a release understanding the potential danger involved.<span>  <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">As I was walking early this morning with a friend, I told him what my son was doing.<span>  <\/span>He asked me, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153If something happens to him, would you be sorry you didn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t discourage him from going?\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<span>  <\/span>My answer was \u00e2\u20ac\u0153No.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<span>  <\/span>After all, I thought\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6it is what he loves to do.<span>  <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Think about parents who have children in other danger zones of life\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6war, law enforcement, emergency medical professions, etc.<span>  <\/span>They all must think of their child\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s safety regularly.<span>  <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>My wish for you today<\/strong> is that you support families who have members in harms way on a daily \u00e2\u20ac\u201c or even on an occasional basis.<span>  <\/span>If they have a passion for their work and they are doing what they love to do, it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s worth it.<span>  <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">~ Joellen<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I had a call yesterday.
