He talks about being down and weary, having a heavy heart and being troubled. He says he knows there will be strife but, for Josh, he sings that he finds God’s spirit to raise him up on mountains, on His shoulders…and helping him be more than he could be on his own.

So who has raised you up lately?

In my past, I have certainly had my share of being raised up. Being molested for six years of my early life, losing a husband to a long and debilitating illness, having a baby born with a medical condition that caused him die at a very young age…I could go on. The support of family, friends, and even those I didn’t know, was amazing. My own internal will to survive also helped – not to mention that ever present support of a higher being than any of us.

I suspect that, daily, we come in contact with those who are survivors of bad situations in their lives and, but by the grace of God, live to tell it.

The likelihood is that you have your own stories to tell. I remember a minister friend of mine that said once, “If you don’t have a story to tell, you haven’t lived long enough.”

There are, sadly, people who would say that they had “no one” to raise them up when times were tough.

The truth of the matter is, though, that there are those of us who find ourselves not being lifted up and supported when we need it most. Sometimes, even the best of us find ourselves in the depths of despair.

There are also times when an individual tries desperately to “raise someone up”, but people are so burdened that they refuse help. Maybe you’ve seen someone who is too proud to be supported or helped in this way.

Maybe that someone has been you.

Like I said, it’s a miracle that any of us are around and sane. Many of us are survivors. When you’re a survivor, you know what it’s like when people are down.

So what do you do when you see someone struggling? Do you walk around that or act like they are not there? Do you help out if it is convenient? Do you go out of your way to make someone’s day a little better?

I have to admit, there have been times in my life that I’ve not been so good at being sensitive to those in need all the time. Most often I have been, but not always. I guess I’m saying I’m not perfect.

It’s priceless when someone raises you up when you’re in need.

My wish for you today, is that you will be the recipient of those who “raise you up” often in your life – but most especially when you need it. When you are able, I encourage you to be the one who “raises others up” as often as you possibly can. It may be appreciated and, who knows, you may make a real difference in someone’s life.

~Joellen

Josh Groban sings a song, “You Raise Me Up” with a style that will take your breath away.
