{"id":377,"date":"2007-08-15T06:26:43","date_gmt":"2007-08-15T10:26:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/reflectionsfromacountrygirl.com\/?p=377"},"modified":"2007-08-15T06:26:43","modified_gmt":"2007-08-15T10:26:43","slug":"the-gift","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reflectionsfromacountrygirl.com\/?p=377","title":{"rendered":"The Gift"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Jim Brickman wrote one of my favorite songs \u00e2\u20ac\u201c <strong><em>The Gift<\/em><\/strong>. <span> <\/span>I first heard it at one the many concerts if his I have gone to. <span>  <\/span>The lyrics are just about that\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6gifts that come to us free\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6many of which become our favorites. <span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">I received one of those\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6well, actually two\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6in the past few days.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><!--more-->I went out to put an envelope in the mailbox early yesterday morning.<span>  <\/span>As I opened the door I found a gift.<span>  <\/span>It wasn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t the usually well wrapped gift a friend shares but a simple feather from my fine feathered friend the barn owl.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">I picked it up and examined it.<span>  <\/span>The fluffiness on the end was typical of it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 feathers.<\/p>\n<p>Since I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve been reading the last Harry Potter book and owls are also part of his life, I just laid the feather gently beside the book on my glass top table so I could enjoy it awhile before I put it in a small clear plastic bag and slip it into my latest memory book.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">My son and his girlfriend came over last night for dinner and saw it.<span>  <\/span>We enjoyed a few minutes of talking about that owl.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In the middle of the night I was awaken by animal fighting sounds in my front yard.<span>  <\/span>I jumped out of bed and peered out the window in time to see the <strong><em>Owl and the Pussycat<\/em><\/strong> (Ms. Kitty) fighting for some kind of varmint.<span>  <\/span>The barn owl won the prize and quickly flew off with it.<span>  <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m glad these two are in my yard.<span>  <\/span>I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m not sure what it was they were fighting over but it is one less critter I have to deal with that might scare the willies out of me if I see it.<span>  <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">I just hope the owl doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t leave the leftovers on my front porch like that feather!<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>My wish for you today<\/strong> is that you be aware of your surroundings and appreciate the wild and domesticated animals you may find along your path.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">~ Joellen<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jim Brickman wrote one of my favorite songs \u00e2\u20ac\u201c The Gift.
