{"id":330,"date":"2007-06-26T10:31:55","date_gmt":"2007-06-26T10:31:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/reflectionsfromacountrygirl.com\/?p=330"},"modified":"2007-06-26T10:33:36","modified_gmt":"2007-06-26T10:33:36","slug":"the-watermelon-crawl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reflectionsfromacountrygirl.com\/?p=330","title":{"rendered":"The Watermelon Crawl"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">I love watermelons.<span>  <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">They now are making the kinds that are seedless.<span>  <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">What are they thinking?<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Part of the fun&#8230;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"> <!--more-->of eating watermelon on a hot day is to see how far you can spit the seeds\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6yes, a seed spitting contest of sorts.<span>  <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Last night on the way home from walking with a friend I heard a song on the radio called \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The Watermelon Crawl.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d The song reminded me of how much fun watermelons can be.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Not only can you spit seeds, but there are festivals \u00e2\u20ac\u201c like the one they just had in <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:city w:st=\"on\">Hampton<\/st1:city>,  <st1:state w:st=\"on\">SC<\/st1:state><\/st1:place> last week \u00e2\u20ac\u201c that are named for watermelons.<span>  <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Then, there are all the foo foos that have watermelon designs on them.<span>  <\/span>And heaven forbid if you are a Southern woman and haven\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t seen a watermelon pocketbook or dress with the luscious fruit somewhere in your past.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">This time of year there are watermelon farms where people make a decent living picking and packing the things.<span>  <\/span>I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve heard of many a romance blossoming at the watermelon patch.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Yes watermelons are a way of life in the South.<span>  <\/span>Its part of being a true blue Southern and it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s pretty healthy for you, too.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t say that about all our Southern ways.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>My wish for you today<\/strong> is that you enjoy a good watermelon sometime this summer while they are in season here.<span>  <\/span>There\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s just nothing better than a Southern grown watermelon. <span> <\/span>They are SO tasty and are sure to cause some good fellowship and action packed seed spitting contests.<span>  <\/span>Who knows, you may find love, too, when eating a watermelon\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6or, at the least, do the watermelon crawl with your friends!<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">~ Joellen<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I love watermelons.
