{"id":327,"date":"2007-06-21T04:36:11","date_gmt":"2007-06-21T04:36:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/reflectionsfromacountrygirl.com\/?p=327"},"modified":"2007-06-21T10:03:33","modified_gmt":"2007-06-21T10:03:33","slug":"just-ducky","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reflectionsfromacountrygirl.com\/?p=327","title":{"rendered":"Just Ducky"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">So I was talking on the phone the other day with a friend who was outside sitting in the porch swing when a group of ducks came waddling down the street.<span>  <\/span>It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s not unusual to see ducks there in that <st1:city w:st=\"on\"><st1:place w:st=\"on\">North Charleston<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> area since a well manicured pond is nearby.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">What is less noticeable<!--more-->, at least until that day, is that the ducks have a mating season defined by obvious friskiness on the part of the male ducks and a less than encouraging demeanor of the female ones.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Ok. I suspect you guys are grinning at this comment\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6and, quite frankly so are you girls. Sounds similar to us, in some respects, except our season is all year long!<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">My friend began describing the antics of the ducks and that there were several males attracted to the same female.<span>  <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u00e2\u20ac\u0153I wonder how the female knows which one is the daddy duck?\u00e2\u20ac\u009d He said.<span>  <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u00e2\u20ac\u0153I suspect she has an instinct about that.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d I replied.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Later that same day I was bringing my mother back home to her place in <st1:city w:st=\"on\"><st1:place w:st=\"on\">Columbia<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> after a little ride in the country.<span>  <\/span>Low and behold there was a group of ducks up from the pond at the front of her door.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">They were involved in the same activity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Pretty soon I suspect we will be seeing two ducks protecting a nest near her door \u00e2\u20ac\u201c just like last year about this time\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6that is once things are sorted out and the daddy duck starts protecting the mother-to-be and her nest.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>My wish for you today<\/strong> is that you take the time to be aware of what nature\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s cycles are and do your best to protect that process as much as possible.<span>  <\/span>Then you can enjoy the little ones, from a distance of course, when they arrive.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">~ Joellen<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So I was talking on the phone the other day with a friend who was outside sitting in the porch swing when a group of ducks came waddling down the street.
