I suspect it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s sort of like crossing the Savannah River between SC and Georgia if you live nearby there and go across to shop or work.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Many of the people living in this area commute daily.  Of course, they go by car like most of us.<\/p>\n<p>But what if you lived during George Washington\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s time and found yourself going over by boat to do your job?<\/p>\n<p>That\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s exactly what he did there one Christmas on his way to the Battle of Trenton.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/reflectionsfromacountrygirl.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/06\/washington-crossing-008.jpg\" title=\"washington-crossing-008.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/reflectionsfromacountrygirl.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/06\/washington-crossing-008.thumbnail.jpg\" title=\"washington-crossing-008.jpg\" alt=\"washington-crossing-008.jpg\" align=\"left\" \/><\/a>You\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve seen pictures of him standing in a stately position in a boat while his men oared from Pennsylvania to New Jersey.  It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s actually not a very wide river at the point of \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Washington\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Crossing.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d  A quaint township, it has a lovely river path you can walk as you visit houses and fields still maintained from Washington\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s days.  We stopped to see women \u00e2\u20ac\u201c adorned in clothing from that period &#8211; weaving, cooking, and talking about life during that time.<\/p>\n<p>I could almost see the settlers strolling up and down the paths with their families as they went from place to place.<\/p>\n<p>There was a boathouse where replicas of the boat Washington sailed<a href=\"https:\/\/reflectionsfromacountrygirl.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/06\/washington-crossing-004.jpg\" title=\"washington-crossing-004.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/reflectionsfromacountrygirl.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/06\/washington-crossing-004.thumbnail.jpg\" title=\"washington-crossing-004.jpg\" alt=\"washington-crossing-004.jpg\" align=\"right\" \/><\/a> on were kept. The crafts were small compared to many we know of today. They weren\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t at all like those huge clipper ships I saw recently in Charleston.  Just a basic \u00e2\u20ac\u201c get me across to the other side \u00e2\u20ac\u201c boat.<\/p>\n<p>The community was wrapped up in the history of that moment.  We had a pleasant meal at the Washington Inn and reflected on those <a href=\"https:\/\/reflectionsfromacountrygirl.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/06\/washington-crossing-017.jpg\" title=\"washington-crossing-017.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/reflectionsfromacountrygirl.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/06\/washington-crossing-017.thumbnail.jpg\" title=\"washington-crossing-017.jpg\" alt=\"washington-crossing-017.jpg\" align=\"left\" \/><\/a>times before we went across the river and headed back home.<\/p>\n<p><strong>My wish for you today<\/strong> is that you discover what\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s across the river whenever you can.
