Back in the Saddle Again

Well maybe not quite but I’m on the way, again.

Gene Autry sang this song many years ago. Basically, he sings about getting back to basics out on the range where he “got back to normal” living.

As you’ve seen, I”ve been in intensive care for five or six days. Can’t remember how long but when they put you in, you can’t get out of bed so I lost some strength and am regaining it now. I am happy to say I am back on the leukemia floor where my friends and staff treat me well and encourage me. I have friends coming to town for the next ten days to visit and am looking forward to that…all from South Carolina.

So I am back in the saddle again. Not to normal, but then life changes pretty fast and I find that my “normal” is not what it used to be.

I meet new friends everyday. Today I met Stephen Findley.  He is a chaplain here and we harmonized some good old gospel songs together in my room while Pierce was here with me. Stephen will be bringing me communion tomorrow. It’s been awhile since I had communion and I look forward to it.

I also celebrated my friend, Barbara’s, birthday by singing happy birthday to her over the phone.

My wish for you today is that you celebrate being back in the saddle again – whatever that is for you from day to day. Embrace what is going on in your day and find the good things that surround you.
