Moving On

With all the negative energy we’ve experienced over these past months during the election process, I, as many of you, have been searching for some positives.  It’s hard to do that when so much negativity surrounds us in the media – but I suspect we made the most of it and can now, finally, breathe a sigh of relief that elections are over.

So how do you deal with life when negatives are everywhere?

Some of us jump right in and stress about it.  Others sit back and watch, wondering when things are really going.  Others do something positive that sends the negative vibes away and helps us focus our energy on constructive efforts.

For the past two weeks I have been writing a great deal to focus my energies in a positive way.  Colleagues of mine have invited me to make a presentation about my book and how I utilize the stories to teach life lessons and interweave language arts activities into the sessions.

With that in mind, I have written a 25 page discussion guide.  The guide leads the presenter and participants through a series of simple questions after sharing the focus of the story and guiding participants into thoughtful writings that lead to discussions about handling life positively. The lessons can be adapted to both young and old and everything in between.

I present this in Charleston at the South Carolina School Counselor’s Association State Conference on Monday. I am looking forward to the interaction with this group of dedicated men and women who diligently and selflessly work in our South Carolina schools.

I’ve had the good fortune to share with young students in the classroom, teachers, church groups, retirement groups, and civic groups about the challenges and pleasures of life.  I encourage you, if you are a presenter or group leader, to share these simple stories with your group and have some honest discussions about embracing life positively. The exercises are easily implemented within a 45 minute time period and can lead to some thought provoking exercises.

My wish for you today is that you embrace life to the fullest and in the most positive way you can.  I encourage you to find a way to help yourself and others grow daily and surround yourself with positive, uplifting people whenever possible.
